The European Commission has adopted on Tuesday, 5 August, a proposal for a new Macro-Financial Assistance operation to Jordan, worth up to €500 million. The support builds on earlier agreements between the EU and Jordan. The funding will address the country’s external financing needs and help to implement structural reforms.

The fresh proposal will complement the fourth Macro-Financial Assistance programme to Jordan, approved by the European Parliament and the Council in April 2025. The latter amounts to €500m to be disbursed over 2025–2027. Together, these two operations bring the total support to Jordan to €1bn.

The assistance will be provided as long-term loans on concessional terms. The new Macro-Financial Assistance (MFA) operation foresees three disbursements, each tied to the implementation of agreed policy commitments.
