Mission Statement
EU Perspectives was founded in early 2025 on the belief that the Union’s future will depend more critically than ever on its institutions—and on their ability to translate Europe’s strategic direction into policies and actions that address its priorities and respond to the challenges of global change. Our mission is to foster a well-informed debate on how these institutions shape the EU’s path. By engaging diverse perspectives, we aim to spark fresh impulses in the discussion of the core themes that will define the Union’s future: economic competitiveness, the Single Market as engines of its growth and defence & security as garantors of its stability.
We deliver high-quality, well-sourced information, analysis, and commentary on the EU’s institutional developments and policies. We also examine how the Union asserts its voice on the global stage and navigates international pressures. Our editorial team seeks answers directly with those who shape European legislation, as well as with the businesses and citizens most affected by it.
We are committed to open, impartial debate, grounded in facts and informed by expertise. We see the story of the European Union as an open book whose chapters are still being written. EU Perspectives seeks not only to document this process but also to leave its imprint on it—promoting a vision of the Union built on reason, humanity, and sustainable social and economic progress in a secure world, while recognising that such outcomes are never guaranteed.
EU Perspectives is the brainchild of Ivo Hartmann, publisher of established Czech news portals active since 2013. His public service career spans key moments in the country’s EU story: as First Deputy Minister for Regional Development at the time of accession in 2004, he oversaw cohesion and structural funds and implemented EU procurement standards into national law; and as Director-General at the Ministry of Health in 2009, he served as Commissioner for the health agenda during the Czech Republic’s first EU Council Presidency.
