The European Parliament on Wednesday backed the Commission’s proposal to give Eurojust two more years to complete its long-delayed overhaul of its case management system.

The regulation extends the deadline for switching to Eurojust’s new digital case management platform from December 2025 to December 2027, amid persistent technical problems and the complexity of migrating sensitive data from the old system.

Lawmakers approved the text without changes, aligning fully with the original draft put forward by the Commission in March 2025.

Transmission of information

The case management system is Eurojust’s digital backbone, used to store and exchange operational data in sensitive cross-border investigations. It underpins judicial cooperation between national prosecutors on crimes such as terrorism, cyberattacks, and war crimes, allowing information to flow across EU jurisdictions.

With the Parliament’s position now adopted, negotiations with the Council can begin. Both institutions are expected to move quickly to avoid a legal gap that could disrupt Eurojust’s handling of cross-border criminal cases, including those linked to Russian aggression against Ukraine.
